Captain Three Leg is quite possibly the oldest and most prolific recording artist in Iowa. The band started in 1995 and have been continuously recording and releasing material for 20 years with no breaks. They currently have an impressive 58 releases, including splits (at time of writing, which is 20/Sep/2015). The band haven't played live since 1999, therefore not having to rehearse or maintain a set has opened the doors to constant recording.

On 17 September 2025, the band made a post on their Facebook page, saying: "Captain Three Leg formed in the Summer of 1995 when its members were 19 years old. At this point, after 30 years, we are the longest running band in our state of Iowa. We had big plans for August to commemorate this anniversary. Those plans were amended, then eventually abandoned completely. Instead, we have been quietly working on our 95th release. Not quite Agathocles numbers, but no one could deny our work ethic. We'll keep recording and releasing stuff until one of us dies. I'm hoping that's still a few years off.".
